Code of Conduct

Improv is all about coming together, making things up in the moment and having fun. At the heart of improv is ‘Yes, and…’, which means really listening to each other and supporting ideas to create something wonderful that we could only make together.

As an Improv teacher and coach, I aim to create:

  1. A safe space where everyone feels supported as they step out of their comfort zone.

  2. A welcoming space where everyone feels valued and appreciated for their unique gifts and perspective.

  3. A fun space where laughter flows and everyone can enjoy the learning experience.

Before joining my classes or workshops, please read my code of conduct:

  • Please arrive on time, be present and prepared. Bring a notebook and pen, put your phone away (though you can use it to write notes if need be), and be ready to listen, support and play.

  • Please be kind to yourself and others. Learning improv means stepping out of our comfort zones, which is a brave, vulnerable experience. All the more reason to be generous, open-hearted and not judge our own or our classmates' ideas.

  • Please treat all people with respect. We do not tolerate any discrimination, bullying or harassment. We never mock, put down, or make fun of our classmates. Comedically, we always punch up, never down.

  • Please respect boundaries and privacy. Everyone’s level of comfort is different. If someone is uncomfortable, we can immediately stop. No explanation is needed. Please don’t repeat personal stories or people’s personal information outside class.

  • Please keep physical touch to a minimum. Minimal physical touch means a handshake, a high-five, or a consensual hug. We do not touch anyone anywhere near the ‘swimwear’ area.

  • Please keep it PG. We play clean comedy, nothing sexually explicit and no pretend kissing or fighting.

  • We are team players; we don’t compete. Improv is a team sport and works best when we shine together rather than trying to stand out as individuals.
